INTENDED USE
Modified Thayer Martin (MTM) is a selective solid medium used for culturing and primarily isolating pathogenic Neisseria bacteria, including Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis, as the medium inhibits the growth of most other microorganisms. The antibiotics contained in the medium are vancomycin, colistin and nystatin, which can suppress the growth of commensal microbial flora present in the anal canal, vagina, pharynx and other sites. In addition, trimethoprim is incorporated to suppress the growth of swarming Proteus sp. thereby increasing the number of gonococci isolated from clinical specimens.
This Square Pill Pocket agar Plate is packaged in the JEMBEC and Pill-Pocket System. The tablet provided in the pack liberates carbon dioxide into the enclosed pack when the tablet comes in contact with water vapor present in the medium.
